Property Spotlight: Gallows Point Resort, St John, U.S Virgin Islands

Perched on the coastline, offering an unrivaled sanctuary overlooking the vast expanse of the ocean, Gallows Point Resort promises an unforgettable experience, captivating you with sweeping panoramic views and breathtaking sunsets from their exclusive oceanfront location—a landmark that greets you as one of the first impressions of St John as you sail in via ferry.

We chose Gallows Point Resort for our stay in St John for a couple of reasons. Firstly, being first-time visitors to the island, we desired a central location at Cruz Bay —the largest town with quaint little shops, restaurants, and bars. Secondly, the enticing combination of luxury, tranquility, and spaciousness was unique to Gallows Point, setting it apart from other properties on the island.

The resort is conveniently situated just a 5-minute walk from the Cruz Bay Ferry Terminal, and they provide a complimentary shuttle service to the resort. The expansive grounds stretch across the breadth of the bay, ensuring that each room offers a unique view of the ocean.

The entire property is fitted with 1-bedroom accommodations, either a single story or a duplex. They're practically villas, not just rooms - they are beautifully tropically decorated, in true Caribbean fashion, and come fully equipped as a self-containing space, complete with spacious living areas, tall ceilings, king sized beds, and fully equipped kitchens.

Check out the vibe in the video below:

Operating 24 hours a day, the hotel's front desk is staffed by the friendliest personnel who went above and beyond to accommodate all our needs and questions. A small shop on-site, perfect for purchasing drinks, snacks, or souvenirs, also houses the concierge, providing valuable guidance on the best spots and must-see attractions on the island.

Gallows Point also boasts an on-site restaurant, Ocean 362, positioned above the reception area. The location is ideal, providing a breathtaking setting to witness the sunset over the horizon from the terrace. Although we didn’t have a chance to sample the food ourselves, it seems to be very popular and books out fast, especially the prime sunset-facing seats.

Gallows Point offers various spots for swimming, sunbathing, or losing yourself in a good book in secluded areas. The swimming pool, equipped with a hot tub, provides stunning views over the ocean. A brief stroll down the steps leads you to the waterfront, where you can relax on a small private beach or sway in a hammock. One of our favorite pastimes was taking a refreshing dip from the jetty and exploring the rocks near the hotel, revealing a diverse array of marine life. Who would have thought that excellent snorkeling opportunities were just steps away?

What we loved:

  • The incredible sunset-facing balcony in the upper ocean-facing rooms. Nothing like ending the day from the comforts of your own balcony, sipping a glass of bubbly and marveling at the pink skies!

  • The convenience of the concierge service, where we effortlessly rented both a Jeep and snorkeling equipment for the duration of our stay.

  • Whether lounging at the seafront, jetty or pool, the resort never felt overcrowded. We always discovered a spot which matched the vibe we were seeking.

Throughout our stay, we also observed some permanent residents—iguanas and peacocks! They are harmless and peacefully roam about the property, adding to the delightful experience of being surrounded by nature.

Gallows Point offered all the luxury of island life that we were seeking. Whether you seek a romantic getaway, water adventures, or a serene retreat, Gallows Point promises a unique and memorable stay.
