Finding paradise on Fushifaru Island, the Maldives

Most people I know either LOVE the Maldives or find it incredibly boring as a destination. I have heard of people visiting the Maldives every year for the last 30 years, yet I also know people who've booked a 2-week vacation there and left after four days.

We visited the Maldives after a hectic wedding period, and found that it was everything we ever wanted - which was to relax. And what better place to pick for this escape than Fushifaru?

Case in point below.

PRO TIP: Pick an island a little further away from Male for the best waters, unobstructed views of the horizon, and a seaplane ride!

Fushifaru is located a 30-minute seaplane ride from Velana International airport. That sounds far, and it is - so if you're keen on rushing to your hotel as soon as you land then Fushifaru isnt for you. However as a first time visitor, I couldnt help but notice how absolutely average the waters seemed to be closer to the ''mainland''. The overwater bungalows that everyone raves about seemed to have a view of...well, each other. Or the industrial towers of Male. Not exactly the claims of paradise I was looking for.

The seaplane ride is such an incredible experience. Yes there is a lot of waiting around involved, but if you have the time the views of the atolls are unparalleled.

The island is small - we could walk from one end to the other in ten minutes! It really felt like we were vacationing on our own private island.

At Fushifaru, we stayed in two different room types - the sunrise-facing beach villa and the overwater pool villa - to have different experiences. Both rooms are absolutely stunning - especially the overwater one which has unobstructed views into the horizon from our own private plunge pool. HEAVEN.

Not only did the staff at Fushifaru spoil us rotten with a gorgeous floating breakfast (served on a traditional Maldivian boat replica - how cool?!) but they also arranged a romantic private dinner on the beach, with an excellent 3-course lobster menu and wine pairing.

We cannot wait to go back!
